Help me give my students a small Christmas tree, menorah, kinara, kinara candles, plastic ornaments, large dreidels, chocolate gelt, and a book about winter holidays around the world to teach my students about various winter holidays.
I love my students and I’m so lucky to be their teacher! I teach a second and third grade, special education class with twelve students. My school is located in a first-ring suburb in Western New York. My students primarily have developmental disabilities and are working on basic academics as well as life skills. Most of my students receive physical therapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and counseling.
My students amaze me every day.
They work very hard throughout the day and thrive in school when given consistency and predictable routines. My students also greatly benefit from multiple opportunities to move around and let out energy. Many of my students have difficulty sitting still for long periods of time, so frequent opportunities to let them move helps them be more successful in my class! I strive to be the best teacher I can be, and provide my students with materials that will help them work to their full potential.
My Project
My students get so excited for Christmas every winter! This year I want to teach my students about how other countries celebrate not just Christmas, but other winter holidays such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. To do this, I would like to provide my class with various winter holiday items.
By teaching my students about how other countries celebrate holidays, I hope to make my students more aware of other cultures and learn that not everyone celebrates holidays the same way they do.
By giving my students a small Christmas tree, menorah, and kinara to display in the classroom and a workbook about winter holidays around the world, my students will have a more hands on way of learning about the different holidays and traditions.
