Flexible seating allows my students with disabilities to take charge of their learning and determine what kind of seating helps them focus. During independent work times my students choose a location in the classroom that works for them. While my current seating is okay, I know there are much more comfortable and effective seating options for my students! Nobody, including adults can focus when they are uncomfortable. I have already noticed a change in my students when I give them a choice in their seating. I am impressed that with the amount of freedom I give them, they are able to make appropriate choices, they are engaged, and they complete their work more with higher quality than they do when sitting in a chair at a desk. By giving my students balance balls, wobble cushions, comfy floor seats, and giant comfy pillows, my students will have more options for how to be comfortable while working around my classroom!
