Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I serve an amazing group of students from diverse backgrounds. Many of my students are newcomers or immigrants who are just now spending their first winter in the United States. The very best thing about my students is their resilience. Although 96% of my students live at or below the poverty line, they come to school ready to learn each and every day.
Due to financial constraints, many of our families cannot afford a safe and reliable winter coat for their child.
Most of my students either walk to school or ride the bus to school through district provided transportation.
Ensuring that my students have a warm winter coat for the upcoming winter season will help to improve physical health, attendance, and academic outcomes. Students who have what they need to be successful (even a winter coat), are more likely to meet their academic goals. Thank you for considering the impact of this project on the lives of my students and their families!
