Winter Bliss...Real Word Skills (Special Education)
My students need a partitions to block off their calm down spot, door stopper to prevent the door from slamming, and board games to help develop social skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -Nelson Mandela
This is one of my favorite quotes because our students are our leaders of tomorrow. By the end of the school year my students need to master the art of using social skills to interact with others.
The emotional/behavioral disabilities class at our school has previously been characterized by inconsistent staffing, low expectations, and low academic achievement.
I believe with high expectations and appropriate supports, high achievement is guaranteed. So far my students have shown great potential to achieve academically and behaviorally. With structures in place that I have provided for their safety and to encourage active learning, they will be able to achieve greatness. All of my students have disabilities. Many come from low-income backgrounds, and many are English Language Learners. These precipitating factors make school more difficult for them. I believe that all students are able to succeed when given the right tools.
My Project
At this time my students need help to develop their social skills. They will be provided an opportunity to do so by playing the board games such as "Poppa's Pizza Topple Game" and various games from favorite action games set. They will be able to use the real working cash register to develop real world strategies and utilize their math skills. In addition the partition will be used to help block off their calm-down zone. The math brain electronic games will help my students develop math strategies to assist them in becoming fluent with math facts.
These donations will help to improve the classroom by providing opportunities for students to use their social skills to interact respectfully with others.
Students will apply math skills to real world situations.
