This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are eager and active learners. They are loving and energetic kids who are happy to be at school.
My students are in an urban school division in Virginia that has a 100% free and reduced price lunch rate.
But despite many challenges they may have at home, these boys and girls are enthusiastic to be at school. They arrive in my classroom, after bouncing down the hallway, vivacious and eager to start their days. They come from a variety of places, some as far as Burundi, Mexico, and Honduras, and speak may different languages such as Swahili, Spanish and even Portuguese. But when they join together in the classroom, their spirit and positive attitude is unmistakable. They are so happy and eager to be at school and they are so excited about everything we learn.
My Project
My students needs Math Equivalency matching games, and other games like Bingo and Math Scrabble that will help them practice basic math computation and skills. They will learn their math skills faster when they are engaged in active game playing with their peers.
They will develop a healthy sense of competition and build successful peer relationships, all while being able to learn mathematical skills through game play at the same time.
This engagement in math games will encourage their success in the future. Providing my students with choices of fun and engaging math games will foster a love of math and strategic game play that will inspire life-long learning.
