My Students

My students represent a variety of cultures and backgrounds. We are a fairly large school in Anchorage, with a population of over 400 K-6 students. In my seven years as a school librarian, I have gotten to know this kind and respectful group of students. They consistently check out their weekly limit in books and are always challenging me to get new items on the shelves. I'm always impressed and thankful for their requests and try to honor them as best I can.

I'm creating this project directly for my 6th graders.

For a majority of them, I've been their school librarian since Kindergarten. The impact of missing face to face contact and instruction throughout most, if not all, of their final quarter of elementary school, has been heartbreaking.

My Project

This specific title will bring joy to each of my 6th graders. Most of them know this is my favorite book and while many have read it themselves, having a copy of their own will encourage them to read it again, read it with their siblings, and read it with their family. They will be able to discuss it with their friends. They will also know that I am thinking about them and doing my best to stay connected during this anxious time.

When we are able to come back together, I hope that they realize through sharing this book, we were never really apart.
