This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarten students are developing their skills as civic-minded leaders, writers, and resilient learners. Each student brings their own culture, knowledge, and identity to the class.

Students love read alouds and are eager to get back into the classroom and interact with stories that reflect the lives of themselves, their peers, their community, and their world.

My Project

My students are at a school that leads them to be resilient life-long learners. In order to challenge inequalities in our education system, we must raise awareness. I want my students to have the skills and confidence to actively take a stand against injustice.

Why not begin challenging inequalities in kindergarten?

One way to challenge inequalities is to have culturally responsive pedagogical strategies that bring students to the center of their learning. Classroom libraries and mentor texts can support students in discovering their place in the world, and also act as a guide into the reality of others.
