Help me give my students books that allow them to have a mirror of themselves and a window into others.

My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We serve some students that are very transient and other students that have the benefit of extended family in the area. We used to be a small town but they are building in our area as fast as they can and we are adjusting to the growth as fast as we can.
We serve students who are low income and may not have educational support beyond our school.
We take these challenges as an opportunity to be more creative in reaching our students.
My Project
What an unusual year in so many ways! I would like to update my library with some books that reflect our changing society.
These books will be mirrors for some of my students and windows for others.
It is important that students seem themselves and their peers in the literature they read. These books will give students the opporunity to do both.
As middle schoolers become adults in an ever changing and evolving society, literature is safe place for them to explore and begin to understand such complex ideas of society and race.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
