My Students

I am a second grade teacher working with 18 exceptionally bright, responsive, and committed students. They are positive, resilient, insightful, and excited about learning. They are also very curious, respectful, and caring. We are a community of learners who value and celebrate the diversity each individual brings to our classroom.

Each day is a new day for me to breathe life into my students’ dreams and aspirations and for them to progress in their journey as lifelong learners.

I am committed to ensuring that all my students have the proper access to authentic and engaging learning experiences that will help them in their future endeavors.

My Project

Within the first week of school, I asked students to draw and/or write book topics that they currently like and would like to know more about. Some students wanted to learn about space and black holes, others were interested in learning about cultures around the world. Many students wanted to learn about people within their culture that had made a positive impact on their community and the world. I also received answers regarding friendship, sports, poetry, art, weather, community helpers, etc. No matter what the topic was, it was evident that students shared the commonality of having accessible books that were of personal high-interest and promoted a culture of learning, inclusion, and racial awareness, and representation.

A quote that will forever resonate with me is as follows: Children need books that mirror their own experiences as well as books that serve as windows, allowing them to view the reality of the world around them.” This is my dream.

I love books. I want my students to love books and become lifelong readers.
