Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyday, I stand in the front of my classroom while my string students work on auto pilot. They get their stands, their music, their instruments, and begin to work. I need not coach them into doing the work. They are motivated to learn without me reminding them they should. They want success.
My students are the best in a tough situation.
They are the students who have risen above the masses and dared to reach beyond their comfort zone. Our district is a high poverty area with limited experience in self regulated success. Many of our students lack the discipline to think creatively out of the box, to find solutions to problems, or create something new for the sake of creating. Many have simply not the proper experiences or materials to foster this type of learning. My students have proven a desire to do more and be more.
My Project
There are several different levels in my classes, so having any books at all, let alone a variety of material, will allow my students to progress as a speed appropriate to them while still working on appropriate and significant material. They will learn the appropriate fundamental techniques they need in order to move on to repertoire at a proper pace.
My students have made an effort to distinguish themselves to be more than students of poverty.
They are working hard to achieve more and I want to help them, as much as I can, to reach their goals. These books will make their classroom experience not only more valuable, but also more efficient. Violin books may seem simple and inconsequential to some, but to them, it's much, much more. To them, it is part of their path to discover, and conquer something new and challenging. To learn and grow.
