My students need the opportunity to learn basic coding strategies through a multi-sensory learning. This would provide my primary and elementary grades with a coding resource that is geared for their age and developmental levels.
Our school is unique to our area and within our state. Our school is K4-8th grade, which houses almost 750 students, with new ones arriving daily. We live in a rural area, in a school district that only has 11 schools. Although our district may be small, of lower economic status, and rural, our accomplishments are great. We have some of the kindest and hardest working students in the state. Our school is a school like no other in our student make-up and atmosphere. This school promotes a family environment, the older students look after the younger students. Being the new Library media Specialist, I am diligently working to bring in technology that can span grade levels!! We have a new Girls Robotics Team: Code Pink that is made up of 6th, 7th & 8th graders. Our students, female and male- older and younger, have a desire to learn more about coding, robotics, and technology of the 21st century!
My Project
Our students have a strong desire to learn how things work, especially with robots! Only having one little robot now, it is a struggle to actively engage the students. This would provide an opportunity for more children to learn basic coding strategies to further their knowledge for 21st century education and future jobs! Our district is actively seeking to further develop our STEM/STEAM instructional strategies across all grade levels. The Botley Coding Robots would provide an opportunity for students k4-8th grade. Our desire is for our older students to guide our primary students! This summer we are creating a learning lab for technology that is an expansion of our STEAM lab. A place where teachers can take their classes to integrate various technology devices with their content. We are actively trying to collect resources that will engage students of all ages and grade levels, while finding durable technology devices to accommodate our 750+ students. Wildcats love to learn to code!
