Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager and come to school everyday ready to learn. Our class theme is The Kindergarten Safari, so our motto is everyday is a new adventure! By the end of the school year I want my students to reach their goals. Our biggest challenge is the amount of resources available to us.
I have a classroom of 22 kindergarten students of many cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
I have some students who are in the ESE (Exceptional Student Education) program and some students in the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)program. Even though we have such a diverse class we come together for one goal and that is to SUCCEED! Our school is in a high poverty area and resources at times are very limited. For the amount of students I have we have 3 computers where only 2 work properly with our new technology programs. Most of my students are on the free or reduced lunch program and school is the only opportunity they have to work with these programs or technology to excel in reading and math.
My Project
Adding an iPad to our classroom will give the students the ability to build skills in reading and math. This will give us one more piece of technology that we need and even better, it's mobile! The students will be able to access our new district programs that will give them the necessary skills. What I like about the iPad is the versatility we have with it. There are always some students that don't work best sitting behind a big computer and they would work better if they have a little more freedom. Especially in Kindergarten it's a great tool when the student can pick where they would like to work even if they decide to take it outside with us.
The donations to this project will help my students improve their reading and math skills by giving them opportunity to work with the new program I-Ready which was provided to us by the district.
