Wild About Reading
My students need a rug, pillows, book bins and other materials to create a warm, fun and exciting reading nook in the classroom.
Hundreds of books and no comfy place to settle in and read. After bond renovations, our room has no more carpet. Instead we have very hard, and unwelcoming vinyl over concrete.
My students are recent immigrants to the U.S.
They are working hard to learn English. Getting them to build endurance in independent reading is a big challenge. Having a more welcoming reading environment may help my students to increase their reading time and therefore improve their English and increase their chances at success.
We would love do create a warm, fun and exciting reading nook. We need a rug and pillows for students to get comfortable on the floor and really fall deep into the pages of a book. We also want a reader's chair for students to read aloud to students. The bins and containers will be used to keep the area neat, organized and attractive to students.
It is sometimes very difficult to get second language learners to want to read every day.
Funding this project will attract students to the reading nook. They will enjoy being in their classroom so much more. Spending time in the nook will inspire them to pick up a book and hopefully help them to develop a true love for reading.
