This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Shaw Heights Elementary School just recently began the Leader in Me Program, so we strive to find the leader in each and every one of our students. Each of the students in my classroom have a variety of talents and strengths. We set goals, and they are such good motivators for one another in meeting those goals. We actively discuss our roles as students and leaders in the classroom, and they are really building those leadership capabilities.
My class consists of 26 wonderful, talented, and creative students.
Of those 26 students, 8 receive intervention and/ or additional resource. They all work at their own pace in an attempt to reach their individualized goals. We hold positive attitudes in our classroom, and we do our best to contribute in making our classroom, school, and community a better place.
My Project
My project is to grow my students' love for reading through building my classroom library. I chose books that will enhance my students' reading, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. Each book was chosen to tie into the season and the skills taught throughout the year.
I want my students to be able to touch and experience the stories.
In order to do this, we need your help! Stories like Crankenstein and Turk & Runt are engaging stories that allow students to practice their comprehension skills through summarizing, identifying key details, and inferring. I know my students will love interacting with these stories!
