This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students live in poverty. We are a completely free and reduced lunch school. I do not want their home life or their low SES to affect their learning or to hinder them from getting the best education possible.

For my students, my room is their first introduction in a school.

My classroom sets the tone for the rest of their school lives. Here is where they decide whether they will love school and learning or dread it everyday. My role is very important, I want to build a foundation that lasts.

My Project

Our students are doing a project approach on wild animals this spring. Each student will choose a wild animal to study the characteristics, habits and habitats of their chosen animal. Students will observe and journal about the animal they chose during the investigation process at the zoo. This field trip would be the culminating activity for our student led project.

Field trips are a special experience for Pre-K students because it is the first time many are able to explore outside of the school building.

The opportunity to go to the zoo is not one many of our students would get to experience because of the community they live in and their social economic status.
