Wiggly Students To Active Learners

My students need flexible seating. My students a extremely wiggly and to have desks and chairs that will help accommodate them would really help them to focus on the work at hand.

My Students

Students are fostering their love for learning this year. We would love to encourage all students to be comfortable in their own skin and adapt the way they learn by moving toward flexible seating.

These students are very active and our school day is very long.

The days of sitting in one seat and one room is very taxing. I would like students to move around, have options in choosing areas of the room where they would work best. These students do not have enough of a selection. They are assigned to the desk, and minus our reading area, we do not have many choices. By giving students access to yoga balls, bean bags and desks that accommodate the chairs, they can have the freedom to choose and be comfortable while learning.

My students live in a suburban setting however we have a very high special education and ELL population. It is not an affluent area and many families have dual income, therefore parents are working late . Many do not have access to technology.

My Project

Help! It has been a while since I was an elementary school teacher and these students are wiggly! It is a long day to be stuck in a seat and old fashioned desk. Not to mention, rarely in the real world, are we stuck in one spot and one room all day long. I am motivated to attempt a flexible seating classroom. I have many students who are very fidgety and I feel this classroom arrangement will be more accommodating for them. With flexible seating, I am hoping students can choose what is comfortable for them and will therefore keep them more focused.
