This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is located on the west side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It offers a traditional school setting with a focus on individual achievement. Our high expectations in all core subject areas are making a positive difference in our students' academic achievement. Parent volunteering is encouraged and welcomed with our open-door policy. The classrooms are in an urban setting with students ranging in age from 3- 11 years old. Various ethnic backgrounds are present as well as diverse social-economic backgrounds.
My Project
I would like to provide some flexible seating in my classroom for not only my special education students but for all the children as well. At 4 years old, sitting at a desk is very challenging. Flexible seating allows children to change their location and positions as needed. Children need to move. Especially at this age. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, or lean. I am hopeful that it will help with engagement and productivity. It also allows for collaboration, creativity, and communication. Furthermore, it will support the development of problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
