Funny..Dedicated..Creative..Resourceful..Passionate...Risk Takers...Just a few words that describe the 3rd grade students. They have made a choice to Love reading and look for new ways to engage themselves and their peers in loving it also. My students make personal connections to characters they meet in books and can't wait to discuss it in group!
Students in my class are diverse and talented and are not afraid to embrace that diversity to show their love for learning.
They love to share what they are reading and are very competitive to be better than the day before. They come from environments that may not have a single book in their home... so students have no idea of their potential until they open a just right book.
We work together to build and foster a community of learning and mutual respect.
With flexible seating, students aren’t tied down to one desk or seating arrangement. Throughout the day, they are sitting with different children. I currently have 2 beanbag chairs and 4 pillows. The wobble chairs and bouncy balls would allow my class more flexibility without leaving their seat.
Flexible seating is essentially “differentiated” seating.
With flexible seating, students are more comfortable, allowing them to focus for longer periods of time. This leads to higher academic achievement. There are many different choices, some options giving children the sensory input that they need.
The purpose of flexible seating is to give students the power of choice. Allowing students to make their own choices, empowers them to become leaders by fostering collaboration.
