My Students

My extraordinary K-5 students are thrilled to be back in school in person after 18 months of online learning. Their minds and souls are enthralled to be back in a learning environment with their peers, but their bodies have grown so fast they are not used to sitting in a hard metal chair for 6 hours a day! We all thrive when everyone is more comfortable! My outstanding students are in classes in a Title I school with 100% free breakfast, lunch and snack. I co-teach in a push-in model in 6 classrooms for English Language Development for our upper grades and have small reading groups in our primary grades.

Our classroom is enriched with 10 distinct languages spoken throughout the school, multiple students who process information differently, and very wiggly bodies as we all learn to come back to school IRL (in real life) as the kids say.

My Project

My students are currently making their hard metal chairs wobble chairs and their actions are telling us what they need! These requested chairs will help them be able to move their bodies in ways they need to in order to focus on the learning they have been so desperately missing in person. This also helps with social distancing and anxiety, as many students feel nervous with school not feeling the same as they are 2 years older and the world has changed. These chairs are easy to move and easy to sanitize. Even the hexagon seat is fun to slide your hands on!
