I teach 16 amazing kindergarten students in a title I school. This means that the majority of the kids come from low income homes. Many of my students are living with extended family (grandparents, aunts, etc) instead of their original mother and father.
My community also has many different nationalities.
I have 4 students who don't speak English as their primary language at home. I have students with varying disabilities as well, from Speech problems to students with Autism. It is quite a mix!
My students look to me every morning with eager faces ready to see what we are going to learn today. They are truly a wonderful class. Despite their different backgrounds and abilities, we are one happy family in our school!
My Project
My kindergarteners are amazing learners! They need to be able to use all of their energy while learning new and exciting things each day. These seats allow for appropriate wiggling and movement while their minds and hands are hard at work writing, coloring, cutting, etc. The stabilizing nubs on the bottom will ensure that they are safe when they use them. Safety, fun, and movement are all necessary to engage their brains and bodies. Plastic chairs become uncomfortable after long periods of time. These chairs will encourage children to engage their core while seated which will also provide health benefits to them in the long run.
The dividers will also allow students to focus on just their papers when it is time to assess their learning or when they just need some private space.
