Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My international minded second graders come from a variety of backgrounds, with many different value and beliefs. However, in our classroom we have one thing in common: becoming the best versions of ourselves in order to make meaningful contributions to our community and world.
Our school community serves a large population of English Language Learners.
We are a newly accredited school and I want our classroom learning experiences to be molded to the needs of my students. This group of students posses a variety of needs, including sensory support. They all bring a wealth of experiences, traditions, religions and knowledge to our classroom. They teach me, and each other, each and every day.
My Project
The materials I'm requesting already have a spot waiting in my classroom. I'm requesting a variety of wiggle seats and flexible seating options. My 21st century minded students are up and moving often throughout the day. We need seating options that fit our classroom learning style. My students will get to choose seating options that are right for them. The stability balls with legs will allow students a safe seating option for wiggles during whole group and small group instruction. Another product I have requested is a flexible seating option called a T-Stool. T-Stools require students to balance while sitting and centers the sensory output into this, rather than more disruptive behaviors. The requested tent will be a hideaway oasis for students needing a break from the environment or other stimuli. The wiggle seats will provide simple, yet needed, motion for little bodies.
The donations to this project will help my students with focus and attention, and will therefore improve our overall classroom environment and achievement.
Many of my students need frequent breaks to refocus and reset. The seats i'm requesting will help them continue to learn and inquire, while getting necessary movement into their day.
