I have a class of 21 wonderful 1st graders! Most people say “Wow, how do you do that?” or “You are amazing!” 1st grade is such a fun group of students. Most 1st graders come to me with some form of reading skills. These skills range from simple words to reading on a 1st grade level! You never know what they will tell you or do! Watching them bloom makes it all worth while!
Differentiating is what teachers are all about!
This helps students to work on what they need, not what the majority needs. This project will help me give more students choices to help them learn the way they learn best!
Not all of my students share the same lifestyles and cultures, but most share economic status. Our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch for 100% of our students. My students face many challenge outside of school and still come to school eager to learn. I feel lucky to listen to their dreams and plans as well as watching them bloom into beautiful flowers.
My Project
Wobble chairs are designed to allow students who need extra movement, in order to focus better, the opportunity to wiggle while they work! During instructional times some students need to move a bit to stay focused, which means these chairs are just what they need! During independent time students are allowed to move around the room to work. I have 1 wobble chair and I have serveral students who ALWAYS want to use it. My students can use the wobble chairs in the middle of the room, at any desk, at my reading table, and any other place they might want to sit. Anyone who has experienced 1st graders know they like to wiggle! Students love the movement to help focus and I see this in their work.
Allowing my students to be comfortable and focused at all time is what I strive for!
These Wobble chairs will allow more students the chance to wiggle while they work quietly. Students who are focused and working are more successful, which is what I want for all of my students.
I have seen a positive affect with the 1 wobble chair I have and hope to provide more students with the same opportunity.
