Teaching in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges in and out of the classroom. Our tax base is tiny so we have to do a lot with very little. They love to learn and they love to be children. My classroom environment allows for movement and collaboration as well as self-paced task lists that focus on independent learning tracks.
Movement and interaction are such a HUGE part of a young child's learning process.
I value the small window of time that I have to be a part of each child's learning journey. In order to capitalize on that I try to incoporate as many engaging, hands-on, intentional acitivities into my lessons and daily activities so that no moment is wasted.
My Project
Fostering children's natural inclination to move while encouraging thinking and productivity is the focus of this project. Children should be encouraged to be children, even when they are working.
Young children wiggle, it's a part of who they are.
Lakeshore Learning's Wobble Stools will be a positive addition to our classroom environment. They will give my students an option to work at a table while still encouraging movement! I love the freedom flexible seating allows while teaching children to self-monitor and make adjustments to their work environment taking notice of what works best for them. Moving while working encourages brain connectivity & productivity while helping children focus.
