My Students

I teach in a low-income area of South Carolina. Our students need to be on the move and active to pay attention and retain new information. This can be very difficult with many students and large desks in the room. Our classes are 55 minutes in length, which is difficult for them to sit and keep focused on the lessons for that time period. Research has shown that students who move do better academically and behaviorally in the classroom. We want to be able to teach the whole child and teach to their needs which for our students means to be active.

My Project

The differentiated seating arrangement will provide active engagement opportunities throughout the classroom. Each of the following "wiggle while you work" materials will increase students attention span as well as limit distractions: air stability wobble cushion, Kore Wobble Chairs, exercise balls, and kick it bands.

Actively engaged minds focus more and exhibit positive behavior.

Teachers will spend less time redirecting the off-task students and more time facilitating learning, while students will be focusing their energy with the provided materials.

We chose the air stability wobble cushion, Kore Wobble Chairs, exercise balls, and kick it bands because students can utilize them in different ways. This also allows students the ability to chose their best mode of active learning. We believe these materials will be positive reinforcements in the classroom.
