My Students

The second graders in my class are very energetic and bright. I enjoy teaching them how to pick a good spot to sit each day based on their own individual learning style. The children love having the opportunity to make their own choices. The kids are comfortable, are allowed to wiggle, are engaged, and their brains are active. The parents in our suburban neighborhood are involved and supportive of the alternative seating options in my class. My principal loves seeing the kids in control of their learning.

My Project

I am requesting Wobble Chairs and a ball to sit on to help with their active movement in the classroom. My classroom is set up for children with attention disorders and for kids that just like to wiggle, to move around and be a kid. Because the students are given choices on where to sit, condusive to their learning style, I have seen better performance. I have tables in my classroom to allow for maximum student interaction, but the hard chairs do not suit the needs of my more fidgety students. My school is working very hard to establish a culture of curiosity and self-directed learning that works with each of our learners. By having chairs that are more comfortable, more mobile, I believe that the ability to remain on task and focused will multiply. Students that are happy, comfortable and engaged are better learners.
