This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds in the city of Philadelphia. 99 percent of my students come from low income households. My classroom is a regular education classroom with some special needs children, as well. My children are enthusiastic and eager to learn, but like many kindergarteners, they have a variety of learning styles. Some also have difficulty focusing. Although every student strives to become engaged, they face challenges and need support to overcome these challenges.
Flexible seating options will help my students become more actively engaged and focused, allowing them to be more successful.
Movement using flexible seating will help my students to think creatively while working toward success.
My Project
Having flexible seating in the classroom will have a big impact on my students. Having the opportunity to make a choice and use the seating is empowering. For many students who struggle to learn, sitting still on hard chairs is not optimal. Not all students learn in the same way.
Using a wobble chair creates little distraction and will hopefully help little minds become engaged and to focus.
The use of these chairs should also reduce off-task behaviors.
My goal is to create a safe and comfortable learning environment for all students. As a teacher, I strive to meet success for all!
