Help me give my students a new flexible seating option with wobble chairs! Students will be able to wiggle and move as we read and comprehend text in small, cooperative learning groups!
My students are the reason I get out of bed in the morning with excitement to go to work each day, the reason I continue my professional development, the reason I write grants. They are worth it. I teach at an elementary school in Greensburg, PA. My students are comprised of both boys and girls, many of whom fall at or below the poverty level. School is their safe place, their sense of stability.
Recently, on our last day of school before summer vacation, I had a few students crying as they were leaving.
I realized that, yes, they would miss me and their friends. But they would also miss their guaranteed meals, their fun and excitement, and their carefree and worry free life. They don’t get the vacations and trips to amusement parks and shopping excursions and trips to the local pool like I had when I was growing up.
My goal is to keep them kids for as long as I can. To help them enjoy every second of their education. To give them the most positive experience possible.
My Project
Looking forward to the 2019-20 school year, I would like to incorporate practices of responsive literacy and guided reading into my English/Language Arts block. My third grade students will be reading lots and lots of text at their instructional levels. My goal is to expose them to as much high-interest text at their reading levels as possible! They’ll be guided through these texts and asked to answer deep questions about them.
I would like to use these wobble stools at my small group instruction table.
Students would be able to wiggle and wobble as they read, work, and learn together. Allowing for some extra movement will help with sparking interest and excitement. Who doesn’t want to sit in a brand-new, awesome stool that moves? This will also support students during difficult tasks. I will also be teaching students with ADHD, Autism, and other learning disabilities. These stools will help those students be successful in my inclusive classroom. Providing opportunity for movement during ELA will be beyond beneficial!
