My Students

My students attend a public school in Florida that services all ranges of students from all cultural backgrounds and financial situations. My classroom currently has several students who have been diagnosed with ADHD, sensory disorders, oppositional defiance disorder, OCD, and ASD. Each year these numbers seem to become increasingly larger. I am constantly seeking ways to improve the educational situation for all of my students. Through past experiences I have found that my students learn best through the use of engaging, hands-on activities.

My Project

As a kindergarten teacher I am always looking for ways to meet the needs of the students. Within my classroom there are many different levels of learners. Several of the students are struggling with reading and math skills. Each day I work with these students in small group and individually to increase academic skills. During this intervention time the students require tactile and visual materials to increase their understanding. Some also struggle to stay focused and on task. The Wobble seat will be used during this time to increase focus while also addressing the individual needs of these students. These materials will also be used during the day for small group lessons. During guided reading lessons I will be able to use the letter magnets and stamps to teach letters, sounds, sight words, and word work.
