My students need a durable recess pack that includes a wide variety of developmentally appropriate sports gear and recreational activities specifically created for Grade 2 children and made to last throughout the year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have an energetic, inquisitive and enthusiastic group of twenty-six 7- and 8-year-olds in the inner city of Providence, Rhode Island. My second graders are always eager to come to school and love to read, write and problem solve in such thoughtful and creative ways! My students are so appreciative of each other and all that we do every day. They are culturally diverse and enjoy sharing their own unique experiences with the class. We learn from each other. My school is working hard to build community among families and staff and we have a safe, respectful environment.
My Project
Recess time serves as a necessary break from the rigors of concentrated academic challenges in the classroom. Also equally important is the fact that safe, well equipped and well supervised recess offers cognitive, social, emotional benefits that may not be fully appreciated when a decision is made to diminish it or not value it enough to provide for it. I have noticed that because we are fortunate at our school to have the minutes finally allotted back into our schedule the students are able to come back to class better focused and more productive. Our only challenge is that I would really love to provide my students with the gear and supplies to make their recess time as rewarding and beneficial as possible but it’s hard to keep up with constantly purchasing gear that does last and not quite right for second graders. This set includes a wide variety of durable sports gear including playground balls, deluxe Skip-N-Hops, jump ropes, basketballs, soccer balls, foam discs, and indestructible bean bags. It also comes with an oversized mesh duffel bag so we can keep everything safe, organized and in great condition so every recess class will be enjoyed by all and provide the maximum amount of health and educational benefits possible.
