My Project

My Sister's Keeper (MSK) is a New York City Department of Education initiative to promote gender equality and empower girls and young women in grades 4-12. We are currently exploring a unit entitled "A Healthy Me Inside and Out." As part of the project, we are learning how to make better food choices and create healthier food options.

Schools play an important role in shaping lifelong healthy eating habits by offering nutritious foods.

Schools play an important role in shaping lifelong healthy eating habits by offering nutritious options.

We are exploring how to create and prepare healthy, fun options to keep our bodies healthy and fuel them with good foods that also address our school's food insecurity issue. We need the refrigerator to store the kale, lettuce, tomatoes, and other veggies we are currently growing. We will use the oven to cook the delicious dishes that we will be making and finally, we will use the smoothie and ice maker to help create healthy and delicious smoothies.

As one of our goals is to share what we are learning, our girls will share their creations on Try-It-Tuesday, an initiative we created to introduce different types of healthy food to their peers during lunchtime.

Having an air fryer, mini fridge, blender, and ice maker will allow our girls to see that veggies can be delicious and beneficial to their young lifestyles.
