Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are inherently curious and creative individuals who each have a unique perspective on the way the world works.

An important part of my time with my students is helping them to realize how wonderful their perspectives are and offering each of them opportunities to shine!

Having the support of the DonorsChoose community has been a game-changer for my students. It is important that we have just the right materials on hand for a top-quality education that my students deserve. Beyond material goods, the knowledge that a larger community believes in my students and in me as their guide along their learning journey is encouraging as my students make steps toward a big, bright future of their making.

Thank you for your part in my students' success.

My Project

The materials sought after in this project would have a significant impact on the opportunities that I could offer my students by giving them hands-on experiences with the topics that we are investigating. Take for example the concept of how energy flows through an ecosystem.

Think about the difference in comprehension that comes from looking at a food web out of a book to that of taking an inventory of skeletons that were uncovered by carefully teasing apart an owl pellet!

Beyond content knowledge, these hands-on opportunities would help students directly understand the delicate balance of life on our planet and provide an opportunity to go beyond the classroom into making informed decisions as stewards of our planet!

I think anyone would agree that the best way to learn science is by doing science. Instead of having my students look hopelessly at a few beakers and graduated cylinders on a shelf wondering when it will be their turn to use them, my students deserve a year-long opportunity to engage with the concepts by exploring, observing, asking questions and designing experiments to gather information in an effort to answer their inquiries about the natural world around them.
