it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Numbers, operations, geometry, fractions, decimals, probability, WORD PROBLEMS????? What page now? What problems do we have to complete? Do I have to do the ENTIRE page? This sounds like my third grade class on a regular basis when it comes to math. The only time that I don't hear this is when we are doing hands-on activities which are great to do - when we have the tools to do them.
Currently, I am teaching 19 eager and enthusiastic children who love to have new visual stimulation and use their hands to learn something new. Truth be told, they actually do better and retain more information when they get to touch or actually experience a math problem. My school is in a low income neighborhood, and we don't have the benefit of having enough math supplies for each class to have their own. Unfortunately, when an entire grade level is learning the same thing at the same time, somebody doesn't get to use the manipulatives. It is awful when it is my class! The mood in the class is different because we can only use our books or my silly animations to learn the material. It makes a difference when children can see a real life connection to something they are learning. Relevance makes knowledge stick, and my kids need your help in making it stick!
Please help us to obtain new math manipulatives and supplies that we can use to learn, review, and refresh us on these important math concepts that we have to learn to move into the next grade. Thank you.
