I teach in an economically strapped, underfunded school that has been moved around for three years. We don't even have our own floor in a building! The classroom has broken shelves and one beat up abused chalkboard. I teach English to multiple skill level students who are eager to learn and succeed. We are an all girls school that promises an academically rigorous education that will prepare them to succeed in college and in a professional career. These inner city girls have been overlooked and undereducated for years. Now that they are in this school we need to give them the help they need to catch up to their cohorts and pass them. They will have to strive for academic excellence in order to get those scholarships to colleges that will help them prepare for their chosen careers. Academic equity is their right.

These students have been given the cast off books and buildings from other schools since our inception. The DOE sent us 1st and 2nd grade books for the first 3 years we were open. Other schools cleaned out their store of books and gave us graffiti filled materials with broken bindings they wanted to get rid of. These materials weren't even enough for a class set. We have to give these girls the information they need to pass state tests, the AP tests and college entrance exams.

Our girls are excited about school and eager to learn. They have persevered through all of our tribulations. With an LCD projector our girls will gain access to notes in PowerPoint, look at information from current events and learn how to use the on-line state libraries. State standards dictate that students become familiar with modern technology, and that teachers educate using methods that will enable all student's learning styles to be activated. With this LCD projector, I can teach to all learning styles and the students will be able to give presentations using modern technology. Since most universities expect students to use technology just to enroll they will be even more college ready by using this projector. The multimedia capabilities are endless! All without needing to purchase textbooks, chalk or inhale dirty air.

Please help these budding scholars to improve their abilities to communicate. They need access to quality information that challenges their intellect, engages them in listening, speaking, reading and writing. They want to learn and I want to teach. The web materials are there. I just need to project it.
