My Students
My students are world changers.
For the last two years, I have witnessed a group of vulnerable students blossom into confident and engaged learners full of so much potential!
Many of my students come from low-income backgrounds, single parent households, and failed expectations of what life would be like during their coming of age process. However, when they come into my classroom they feel at home. We are a big familia! Our motto is "family means no-one gets left behind." My students understand and respect this motto in my classroom. They come ready to learn and ready to give it their best while working in unity! I am truly blessed to be able to teach such an incredible, funny, creative, and very energetic group of kids so much, that I am moving up with my ESOL students into their junior year!
ALL of my students deserve meaningful learning experiences, collaborative spaces, technological resources and flexible seating. They have huge aspirations and my goal is to create a learning space that makes the journey to fulfilling those dreams worthwhile! Therefore, these future world changers need the necessary resources to help them reach their full potential.
My Project
In my years of teaching, I have witnessed how a positive learning environment EVOKES a passion and care in students to learn. Flexible seating allows students to make independent decisions and take charge of their learning. During both group work and independent work, students will be able to navigate the classroom and work in different spaces.
This breaks the routine of desks and bland white walls, and I believe a new environment will increase engagement because they have the option of making a choice that best suits their learning experience.
The brick wallpaper, lounge chairs, pillows, and rug will be used to create a reading and study area. The Post-It notes will be used for our encouragement wall (a place where students love on one another). The diffuser will be used to create the smell of a home and stimulate learning and relaxing senses.
I teach three different preps; therefore, I need the extra white-board space to write class objective, vocabulary, and all things related to the third course I am teaching. I will be using the printer to make copies. I like to use outside resources to supplement reading especially for my ESOL classes that are relatable to their personal lives.
