Help me give my students art supplies to produce original art pieces that express who they are and where they come from.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Zamber's classroom raised $996

My Project
Just like last school year students will create an original oil pastel, marker, or watercolor art piece that will visually express who they are and where they come from. In order to create this art piece students will interview at least 1 family member about their family tree, where they come from, and their early childhood.
Students will also answer a series of questions that describe the art piece they created, explain how the art piece represents who they are and where they come from, reflect on the interview process, and briefly critique their artwork.
Students will share with their peers in small groups what they learned during their family interviews about who they are and where they come from, their art piece, and how the art piece they created visually represents the idea of who they are and where they come from. Students will complete the interview process and art piece outside of class with in class support and conferences with the teacher during class. All art supplies will be provided to the students to create this art piece.
This assignment supports social, emotional, and mental well-being as well as the impacts of interrupted learning as a result of COVID-19 because understanding and connecting to your family history and culture builds and supports a strong sense of belonging and self worth. The peer sharing component will reinforce this as well while creating a valuable learning experience that will benefit social skills and create a connection to their peers that students lost during the interrupted learning. The peer sharing will also increase students' understanding of the cultures of their peers and their community.
