My students are kindergarteners. They learn through play and exploration! Every morning they walk through the door looking forward to the special time we set aside to practice skills through hands-on activities. They love to build, explore, create, and interact with each other.
My students are hands-on learners.
They come to me with many different backgrounds - many lacking experiences that build social skills and positive attitudes toward school. Many times, my classroom is the first place they experience being part of a community.
My Project
My kindergarten students love to build and create with Legos. They are the perfect STEM materials for creating, planning, and even building fine motor skills! They are a class favorite, especially among the boys. As a mom of two boys, I have donated many of our Lego sets to my classroom... and I have noticed something. Most of these sets are superhero characters, cars, etc.
I would love to encourage more girls to join in the building with some Lego Friends sets that feature girl minifigures!
These building sets would be perfect to attract more of my future architects, designers, and engineers! I want my girls to see themselves as builders and creators, too!
