Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As most teacher can tell you, there is nothing better than when a student shows a genuine interest in learning. There is nothing worse, however, than when you don't have the resources you need to encourage that interest.

This year, I am in a brand new grade at a brand new school.

I have an amazing group of fourth graders who really inspire me to do my best. My students are full of energy, ideas, and enthusiasm. They are very inquisitive and love to learn and discuss new things.

My Project

One topic that has been of great interest to my students has been famous people. With all of the great fiction stories in my library, I have been surprised by how many of them choose to read biographies. Unfortunately, my selection of grade level appropriate biographies is rather limited. I have gotten requests for books on Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln, and Pablo Picasso, to name a few, and I would really love to provide these resources for them.

These materials would have a significant impact on my class.

When a student shows genuine interest in a subject, a teacher wants to do everything possible to encourage them. Without these biographies, many of my students have hit a road block in their quest for information. If we were to receive these materials, these students would be able to pursue their interests and, hopefully, become happier, more enthusiastic learners in the process.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
