This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
In a middle school classroom focusing on math and STEM subjects, whiteboards serve as indispensable tools for interactive learning and collaborative problem-solving. These writable surfaces facilitate the visual representation of mathematical concepts, enabling students to illustrate their thought processes, work through equations step by step, and engage in dynamic discussions. Moreover, in STEM education, where experimentation and iteration are crucial, whiteboards offer a platform for brainstorming ideas, planning experiments, and recording observations in real-time. By fostering a hands-on approach to learning, whiteboards encourage active participation, critical thinking, and the development of problem-solving skills essential for success in STEM fields.
However, despite the evident benefits of whiteboards, many classrooms, particularly those in socioeconomically disadvantaged schools, face shortages of essential materials due to limited funding exacerbated by the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recognizing this need, our project aims to bridge this gap by providing whiteboards and other necessary materials to enhance the learning experience of our students. Our goals extend beyond mere provision; we seek to create an environment where every student feels empowered to explore, discover, and excel in STEM subjects. We aspire to cultivate a sense of ownership and agency among our students, instilling in them the confidence to pursue their interests and aspirations in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. What makes our students special is their resilience, creativity, and innate curiosity. Despite facing various challenges, they exhibit a remarkable eagerness to learn and a willingness to overcome obstacles, embodying the spirit of inquiry and innovation essential for future success in the ever-evolving landscape of STEM disciplines.
