White Board Student Desks Building a Thinking Classroom
Help me give my students desks they can write on. Learning math is best done when students can explore and erase answers easily. We also love doing projects with colored printer paper in class. Thanks!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My current students don't have desks they can write on and erase. Over my years of teaching, I have found that student engagement increases, when the students are able to write problems on their desk and erase them. Coming to an inner city school, it saddened me that these students don't have the newest desk the suburn schools have. Most math teachers now encourage their students to write on their desk. According to Peter Liljedahl, author of Building Thinking Classrooms, students who can quickly and easily erase their math work are more likely to try. He has studied thousands of classrooms. I want to give my students the same opportunity. We will use the dry erase paper to cover our current desks. We will use the markers and erasers so they can each have either own for their desk. The paper and supplies will be used through out the year in the classroom.
