My students need 4 containers of Idea Paint to create a surface to work on in groups as we prepare for the shift to Common Core Standards.
My school just built a beautiful new facility for our K-12 charter school. Some of the classrooms were painted differently to accommodate a whiteboard style paint. Money began to run low as various obstacles with the construction took the funds previously set aside for this special type of paint.
My students are in Algebra 2 at our public charter school.
The students are required to wear uniforms and demonstrate high quality character on a daily basis. Our school's charter was founded on a strong character education as well as educating the "whole child." At the high school level, we offer a Business, Engineering, and Biomedical track, as well as a home school program, giving students several options to learn the way that works best for them. Our school is in the vicinity of several traditional public schools. We are frequently told about how much better our students behave compared to students at these schools. We set the bar very high for them, and they continue to reach and exceed those levels!
Idea Paint will allow me, as a math teacher, to: -Have many students working on problems on the "board" at one time. This will give me the ability to SEE everyone working on problems. -Groups of students will be able to work on cooperative problem solving. -Several students can "teach" and "tutor" different small groups of students at once, helping students who are struggling, as well as deepening their understanding of the material. -This kind of paint is also conducive to the new Common Core standards as a more project-based curriculum.
This is not just any old white board!
I currently have one small whiteboard in my room, only big enough to work out one problem at a time. This makes it very difficult to look at different problems as a class in order to compare and contrast these problems and scenarios. This board is propped up on a trapezoid table and being held in place by two bags of sand! The completion of this project will give my students an Algebra 2 experience they deserve!
