Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

It is important in my class that when a student shares an idea, they feel respected. One way to demonstrate that respect is to write ideas down, showing they have been important enough to note. With a white board easel, we could quickly brainstorm ideas to be copied down later if needed, and I could also use a piece of chart paper to make lists of important ideas that we want to remember. That way, the ideas could be saved more permanently than on our limited chalkboard space, and students could see that their thoughts were appreciated, recorded, and displayed in the room. Because it is easily moved, an easel would also make it possible to gather such ideas at different places in the room (centers, or while meeting at the rug), so that the students could share group ideas in other, more intimate settings than sitting at their desks. A white board easel would thus benefit all of my 22 5th-graders, both in whole-group settings and in smaller group work.
