The third graders in my classroom love learning, and love talking to each other about their ideas! When engaging materials are in their hands, they find, just like adults, that two heads are better than one. Only a few years ago, our school was earning some of lowest test scores in our city. With many changes to the culture and climate, we proved that socioeconomic status need not be a barrier to an effective education. Kids are kids, and ours are bright and ready to take their education to the next level! We as teachers are doing everything we can to find the effective and innovative approaches to teaching that our students deserve. In reading, that means not having every student read the same book, if every student is not on the same level! Students struggle to participate and and share their thoughts if they do not feel successful at reading because the materials in front of them are beyond their current level of development.
