My students need weaving materials, such as yarn and looms, to be able to have a hands on experience with Native American Crafts during their unit of study.
What do you remember from school? Hands on learning ensures the students will remember what they have learned in class.
My students are wonderful students who have a love for learning.
Unfortunately with all the budget cuts in the state of California, I am unable to provide for them the resources necessary to allow for many hands on experiences to culminate their units of study. My students are creative individuals who are always looking to think out of the box. Pencil and paper tasks are one way to share their learning. In my classroom, I am always looking for alternative avenues for my students to express themselves. Having a variety of resources, like these weaving materials will ensure my students have a true understanding of the Native Americans they will be studying about.
My Project
The weaving materials that I have requested will be a culminating activity after reading about the Navajo Native Americans. The students will learn how the Navajo were expert weavers. We will culminate this unit with the students having the opportunity to weave their own Navajo style mini blankets. When students have the opportunity to do more than just read about things, to actually have hands on experiences, the learning remains forever.
This project will assist in making the students' learning of Social Studies come alive.
By donating to this project, you are making the learning experience one that the students will appreciate and remember forever.
