My Students

Our high school is located in rural southern Utah in the heart of "canyon country." We are a necessarily existent small school and have a student body of about 75 students. The tiny communities our school serves were primarily agricultural, but tourism is now a big part of the economy in the area. The majority of our students come from low-income households.

Because of the size of our school, we know our students very well, and our school feels like a family.

Our students generally have a great work ethic, enjoy the outdoors and love the opportunity to learn.

Our tiny school has a limited amount of course offerings, and we are always looking for ways to increase supplies and opportunities to give our students a larger world view and a broad variety of cultural experiences.

My Project

Our high school is starting up a foods program after a long hiatus. The equipment left in our kitchens from prior programs is outdated, broken, or nonexistent. Our school is from an extremely rural and economically depressed area, and we do not have funding to purchase high-quality stand mixers for each kitchen. My hope is that my students will learn to use and appreciate high-quality kitchen equipment.

We will use these Cuisinart mixers in almost every cooking lab we have this year.

From cookies to pizza dough to whipping cream and shredding meat, the uses for these stand mixers are invaluable and endless!
