Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

What is life without the ability to communicate? That is what most children with autism struggle with each day. For my students, who have been diagnosed with autism, communication is the key determinant to either a successful or complete disastrous day. Every morning is a new day for my kinder, first, and second graders, who come in each day in search of a chance at being understood. My students all have great difficulties communicating their basic needs and wants, which leads to academic struggles, challenging behaviors, and an overall struggle in daily life. The Radius Digital Learning System is just a small way to get the students interacting and learning the language basics they need to become effective communicators in life. With the picture cards and Radius System, my students would greatly benefit from a dynamic learning style which leaves aside the text books and brings reality in. Additionally, the Radius cards provide an opportunity at enhancing what is being taught daily. It allows students the freedom to learn at their own pace, use pictures and words simultaneously to make a direct visual connection, and most importantly make sense of the world that surrounds them. Think of all the information you have gathered about my students' challenges and imagine if everything you just read had been written in a language you didn't understand. How would you make sense of it? Could you talk about what you read? Could you answer any questions? Most probably not, this is why language is so important for students with autism. By donating the above mentioned items, you will help a child with autism fight for his/her voice, opinions, requests, needs, wants, and so much more. Please give me the chance to provide my students with a learning tool that will give them the chance at becoming one, just like you and me.
