Help me give my students dry erase markers, pencils and glue sticks so they will be able to complete their daily assignments for the rest of this school year.
My students are at a 6th-12th grade school. I have around 80 students daily. These students are a joy to work with while introducing them to new math skills. We work very little in whole group time. Most of our time is spent in small group. This is time when I can really get to know my students and what struggles they are having in math.
Our school is more like a giant family.
The students live in a small close knit community where everyone seems to be kin to someone. It's a great place to work because everyone lends each other a hand.
Our elementary school is a Title 1 school, however the middle school/high school is not considered Title 1. Although we struggle with some of the same issues.
My Project
The use of whiteboards with dry erase markers is a daily activity in my classroom during math. Using the modeling method in math, students come to each small group table with whiteboards for guided practice and to modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work.
School Supplies are a necessity!
Students also of course use pencils daily to complete a Bell Ringer. Bell Ringers contain review, current and preview skills that will better prepare students for the state test and retaining what they have learned throughout the year.
Last but not least, glue sticks! In our classroom each student keeps an interactive math notebook. This notebook contains vocabulary words, short cuts, key math notes and many other important items that are glued in.
