Where Did All the Classroom Supplies Go? (Pencils & Paper)

My students need 8 packs of pencils (each containing 144 pencils), 1 electric pencil sharpener, 1 class pack of crayons, 1 class pack of markers, and 1 case of assorted color construction paper.

"If all your peers understand what you've done, it's not creative." -H. Heimlich I am a fourth year, third grade teacher who works in a high needs community in Maryland. Each year, I have seen my students grow beyond all their expectations they had before they entered the classroom in third grade. The students continue to show us that hard work and dedication pays off. The school is a World IB School with students meeting high expectations on a daily basis.

Some students in my classroom come to me or other students in the classroom needing pencils on a daily basis. Something that seems so basic to many, is something that many of my students do not have.

The students need pencils to complete their classwork and homework assignments, and a pencil sharpener that can adequately handle a classroom full of anxious third graders ready to begin their day full of learning. The students in my classroom have shown an interest toward learning through the arts. By having markers, crayons, and construction paper, it would allow myself and my students to learn in more creative/hands-on ways. If my students are to become more creative, they must do more creating. The students recently read a story about the famous painter Picasso and as a result, the students studied more about his styles and made cubism representations following in Picasso's footsteps. Having more supplies available to my students would allow their creativity to soar.

"A person's mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions." - Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. By supporting this proposal, my students will be able to enhance their creative abilities. My students will be able to unleash their written, imaginative, and artistic capabilities, and by doing so, learn without boundaries.
