As every teacher knows, each new group of students arrive filled with promise and challenge. Every year I do my best to review and reinforce previous material and basic skills while still covering my content well. Time, however, is limited, and, despite my best efforts, I end each year bemoaning all the things I didn't accomplish for every student.
This project will provide educational posters to help students review basic writing, language arts, and reading skills, allowing them to reinforce those skills as they learn passively over the course of the school year.
I will use the posters as I actively review, and they will remain on walls afterwards for passive learning: Over the course of the year, students spend hours in my classroom, and although I'd like to think that every minute of that time is spent actively engaged and on task, realistically I know that is not so. There is always "down" time, and during this time, students have an opportunity to learn as they "read the walls." In this way, the walls really can "talk" to my students, helping them learn and reinforce basic skills.
