Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 29 wonderful 5th-grade students, which include special education students, magnet students, English Language Learners, and intervention students. They are very enthusiastic about learning and are always eager to explore new things. They love coming to school every day, and always have a big smile on their faces, despite the socioeconomic hardships they endure in the community in which they live. They attend a school in California, in a low-income neighborhood. The school is both a regular and highly gifted/magnet institution. However, my students are part of the regular school and do not have access to the materials and enrichment activities that the magnet students have.
My Project
For the past four years, we have been on a quest to turn our classroom into a 21st-century learning environment. Thus far we have accumulated 30 Chromebooks and 20 headphones. We just need 30 computer mice and 10 more headphones to complete our technology equipment class set. The computer mice will help my students use the cursor in a more efficient way, especially when they need to use it as a pencil or pen when solving math problems on Khanacademy.com. In addition, it will help them when they have to create 3D designs on tinkercard.com. The headphones will help the children to focus and minimize distractions when working on the Chromebooks.
I strongly believe that if students have the right tools to learn, they become more engaged, productive, and more interested in the task at hand.
Having these materials will allow my students to concentrate and fully immerse in their own learning.
