Our school is a STEM certified elementary school, where kindergarten and first grade classrooms spend part of every day in the forest.
My students are creative, hard workers, and full of fun!
They absolutely love being hands on, and any opportunity they have to head outdoors is one they'll take!
Since starting to spend our afternoons in the forest, I have seen a huge increase in my students working collaboratively. It is amazing to watch them learn and grow through building, inventing, and creating with their peers! These students are inspiring and a blast to be around!
My Project
As part of our Forest First program, our class spends around 2 hours every day in the forest. We extend our reading and writing skills by going outdoors. We are able to use nature to inspire our learning and creativity. Students also have the opportunity to create, build, and invent with the environment around us.
Spending time in the forest has been greatly beneficial for my students, but we are pretty far away from the school.
I'm uncomfortable sending my students to the restroom even with another responsible student, so I'm requesting a compostable toilet for our outdoor classroom area. We plan to build a full outhouse style building around it with the moon and all!
